January Update

Hello Everyone!

January has begun and ended in a flurry. After being in the US for the end of the year, it has been exciting to jump back into the work of trauma care.

January is the beginning of the school year and it is such a joy to see the smiling faces at the schools. It is a new year with sharp pencils and fresh uniforms!

Playing outside at break time!

I’m back at Trinity Children’s Centre, working with teachers, students, and parents. Being with the kiddos is the joy of my life. These kids have beautiful faces and some tough stories. I am honored to get to be a part of their emotional health journeys.

Teaching the grade ones about their engines- how their brain, heart, and mind work together to help them grow.

I’ve also started the next stage of my master’s with plans to finish soon! I have so much empathy for my kids who do school all day and then come home to do homework. We commiserate together about how much we hate homework!

A workshop with the teachers at TCC on emotional intelligence. The challenge was to come up with as many emotion words as they could in 2 minutes!

We are also working with our partners right now to plan how they can incorporate trauma-informed care into their year. This is with schools and organizations in Cape Town who are dedicated to serving their communities with love and connection! More pictures and updates to come!

Love from Cape Town,

Autumn & Venesch
